DAASI International GmbH (Directory Applications for Advanced Security and Information Management International Ltd. was set up by the end of 2000. It is a spin-off from the University of Tübingen, that hosted directory related research projects under grant from the German National Research Network (DFN), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). These projects have been active since 1994 and their work included the set up of an email directory for the German research community called AMBIX, with an automated user interface and additional Yellow Pages information for research institutions in Germany. The projects were also responsible for maintaining and regulating the German root of the international X.500 Directory.

The latest outcome of the work was the establishment of a directory competence centre, called DFN Directory Services, which also represents the DFN in all international co-operations such as the NameFLOW Project, the IETF, and the TERENA Task Force "LDAP Service Deployment".

Members of the project were active in the design and implementation of the directory work in the EU funded Project DESIRE II. Other activities of the projects are located in the field of Public Key Infrastructure, with activities in national legislation and standardisation boards and work in the field of directory enabled metadata management. The complete staff of the last project migrated to the company, so that the entire expertise remains in the company.
