Open Source Software - the better alternative
In both economy and administration Open Source software - software whose source code is freely available - increasingly becomes the focus of attention, because the employment of expensive and insecure proprietary software by the market leaders is becoming more and more problematic in times of cost savings and increased security requirements.
DAASI International would be happy to give you advice on Open Source, especially on the operating system Linux and corresponding applications. There are several reasons for choosing such an alternative:
  • lowering of licence fees
Linux and Open Office are available for free. The only costs emerging from a changeover are for consulting and employee training; due to the fact that license fees become unnecessary, these costs amortize quickly.

  • Increasing of security
Since all Open Source software is available as the programmers' source code, no "backdoors" can be secretly included. Apart from that, bugs, which can result in security gaps, are discovered and done away with more quickly by a programming community. Most ways of attacking computers (viruses, worms, trojans etc.) are specially designed for Microsoft products and are unable to harm Linux-based systems.

  • independence of manufacturers
If you decide to employ an Open Source product, you will not be dependent on a single manufacturer any more and you will be able to decide yourself when and to which extent your administration changes over to a new operating or office system

DAASI International offers the following services in this regard:

  • Consulting on Open Source Software: Linux on workstations, Open Office etc.
  • Design and implementation of a Linux-based intranet with firewall-protected internet connection and all necessary services, like e.g.: mailserver (IMAP, POP, SMTP), electronic employee directory, central authentication, database-supported webserver, FTP-Server, project management, scheduling etc.
  • Creation of a security concept
  • Programming of applications which are specially adapted to the customer's individual needs
  • Installation and maintenance of workstations
  • Employee training
